Welcome to GIXr , the home of the FREE intelligent events calendar!

At GIXr we understand how crucial it is to remember those all important dates;  be they sporting fixtures such as the Monaco Grand Prix; the latest race meeting at Cheltenham or the more mundane but equally critical half term holiday dates for your local school.

We also know how difficult it can be to keep track of such important information when events, often outside the control of the authorities can lead to postponement or even cancellation.

There is nothing more frustrating than discovering too late that you’ve booked the wrong day off or missed that vital race meeting!

Up until now the only way to keep track was to keep regularly monitoring announcements by event organisers and local authorities, although this has been made easier with the magic of the internet online you can still find yourself visiting a number of sites to just make sure.

The easy way to add events to your calendar....

....and they update all by themselves!

World Cup Final – Report

Andres Iniesta scored a dramatic winner late into extra time to give Spain their first ever World Cup win, against the Netherlands.

Penalties were looming, with only four minutes of extra time left, when Fabregas collected a loose ball on the edge of the box and played a quick pass to Iniesta, who controlled it with one touch before driving it into the far corner.

The goal was met with furious complaints from the Dutch players who believed that they should have been awarded a free kick at the other end only moments before. The Dutch had set out to stop Spain from playing their passing game from the outset and were over-aggressive throughout the game.

English referee, Howard Webb, was obviously trying not to spoil such a high profile event when he continually showed leniency despite some awful tackles from the Netherlands. He did eventually dismiss Heitinga for two yellow cards late on, but Spain should have been facing 10 men much earlier.

Spain deserved the victory, creating more chances and pressing forward throughout.

Gerrard Given Royal Approval

England squad members took time out from training yesterday to speak with FA President, Prince William, via video link.  Prince William told Steven Gerrard that his appointment as captain, in the absence of injured Rio Ferdinand, was "awesome" for him.

Gerrard said that he was very disappointed for Rio but was sure that the team would be ready to win by the time of the first match.  There was a feeling of mixed emotions at the moment.

Ferdinand's is not the only high profile injury to hit the world cup teams this week. Didier Drogba is a major doubt for Ivory Coast having fractured his arm during a warm-up game, Mikel, of Chelsea and Nigeria, is out with a knee injury and the latest casualty is Dutch winger, Arjen Robben, who pulled up with a hamstring injury during a friendly match on Saturday.

There are now FIVE DAYS remaining until the start of the world cup!

South Africa 1 Mexico 1

With the world watching, South Africa almost made the perfect start to the tournament, but a shot against the post in the dying minutes ensured that the points were shared with Mexico.

Despite Mexico looking much the better side The Rainbow Nation went ahead, in front of 84,000 ecstatic fans, in 55th minute with a goal worthy of the occasion.  A series of slick passes from deep inside their own half culminated with a perfect strike from Siphiwe Tshabalala, who fired in a left-foot thunderbolt into the far corner of the net.  However, Mexico's Rafael Marquez equalised 12 minutes from time to the deny hosts the win.

The match and opening ceremony was missed by Nelson Mandela, who was absent due to the death of his great-granddaughter, who was killed in a car accident earlier in the day.
